Sign-On Expo to Put Spotlight on Local Clubs and Organisations

Sign On Expo 2020

Published: 20th January 2021

The 2021 Sign-On Expo is just a couple of weeks away and promises to give Mount Isa community and sporting groups a chance to expand their member numbers, as well as boost residents’ awareness of their events, competitions and activities.

Organised and run by Council, the expo will be held from 9am to 1pm on Saturday, February 6, at the Buchanan Park Entertainment Centre.

To adhere to COVID-19 restrictions, some minor modifications have been made to this year’s event, with social distancing to be observed and venue-capacity restrictions to be in place.

Councillor Peta MacRae, who is responsible for the Sports and Recreation portfolio, said while 2020 was a difficult year for sports clubs and community organisations, she hopes there will be a fantastic crowd at this year’s Sign-On Expo.

“With restrictions easing this year, we’re hoping this will bring clubs’ membership numbers back up again,” Cr MacRae said.

“The expo is a great opportunity for sports clubs and community organisations to boost their membership.

“Mount Isa residents have been champing at the bit to get back to activity, and Mount Isa is a very sporty town, so this is the perfect opportunity to see what’s on offer in the community.

“It’s also ideal for those businesses and organisations that support or complement sporting clubs and activities – such as sports suppliers, physiotherapists, podiatrists and uniforms suppliers – to increase their local exposure.
“At this year’s expo there will be some limited activities on display and some food and drinks available.

“With the venue-capacity restrictions, we invite people to come in and have a look around, find out more about what they would like to be a part of or join, and then allow other people to come in to have the same opportunity.

“Please come along and support your clubs and community groups – they would be very happy to have you on board and would welcome your assistance and participation.”
