Community Feedback Sought on Draft City of Mount Isa Planning Scheme 2019
Council’s new draft City of Mount Isa Planning Scheme 2019 is now available for public viewing and Council is currently seeking local feedback on the draft document.
The public consultation period will run from Monday, November 4, until Friday, December 13.
The draft has been reviewed by the State Government and approved for public feedback and is intended to replace Council’s existing City of Mount Isa Planning Scheme, which came into effect in 2006.
Mayor Joyce McCulloch said the Planning Scheme is Council’s framework for managing development in Mount Isa and she urges locals to make the most of the opportunity to have their say on the draft.
“This is a significant document that provides a blueprint of how we live, work and play in the future,” Cr McCulloch said.
“For that reason, it’s important that we hear from Mount Isa community members. Their feedback and submissions will be taken on board and considered by both Council and the State Government before the final Planning Scheme is adopted.”
A planning scheme is a statutory set of documents and maps that guides the way land, buildings and structures are used and developed in the Mount Isa Local Government Area.
It sets out the policies and provisions for the use and development – and in some instances the protection – of land and buildings and is Council’s legal framework for assessing all development applications.
