2021 Isa Festival and Street Parade Cancelled

Published: 6th August 2021

Council wishes to advise that it has unfortunately had to make the regretful decision to cancel the Isa Street Festival event, which had been set for Wednesday, August 11.

The health and safety of all Mount Isa residents and visitors is the top priority for Council. The Isa Street Festival and Street Parade would have been an open, non-ticketed event in the Mount Isa CBD with limited to no contact tracing capabilities for attendees.

It is anticipated that in place of the Street Festival, a sideshow alley and possibly food stalls will be set up in the CBD during Rodeo Week.

Mount Isa Mayor Danielle Slade said it was a very difficult decision to make and Council acknowledges that it will affect many people, however the safety of everyone involved had to come first.

“The health and safety of the event’s attendees, the Mount Isa community and the staff involved are an absolute priority and we acknowledge our responsibilities in this regard,” Cr Slade said.

“We know people will be disappointed and we apologise for that, however we believe this is the right decision to make.”

Council is planning to organise a Virtual Street Parade competition in lieu of the in-person event and encourages all parade entrants to keep preparing their floats.

“Please film your parade entry and send it in to Council – we can publish your video on our Facebook page and give prizes to the winners,” Cr Slade said.

“Council is now looking at ways to host the travelling stallholders and show ride providers in the CBD, such as by providing another free community event in the future, in addition to the 2022 Isa Festival.”
