Night Roadworks Scheduled Across Mount Isa

Mount Isa City Council is advising residents and motorists of upcoming night roadworks across several locations throughout Mount Isa from 10 September to 24 September 2026.
The works form part of Council’s Road Resurfacing and Rejuvenation Works and will involve road surface milling, asphalt installation and associated traffic management.
Works will be undertaken overnight between 6:00pm and 6:00am over approximately two weeks.
Carrying out these works at night will help reduce disruption to traffic during the busier daytime period and allow newly laid asphalt adequate time to cure before roads reopen to regular traffic.

Dates: 07 September – 21 September 2026

Times: 6:00pm – 6:00am
Duration: Approximately two weeks

Locations
Night works are scheduled at the following locations:
- Fourth Avenue
- Abel Smith Parade
- Camooweal Street
- East Street
- Sunset Drive
- Twenty Third Avenue
- Davis Road
- Isa Street
Works are also scheduled at the following intersections:
- Fourth Avenue – Twenty Third Street
- Mary Street – Miles Street
- Patricia Street – Miles Street
- Trainor Street – Pamela Street
What residents and motorists can expect
During the works, temporary lane closures and diversions will be required at affected locations.
Active and passive traffic control measures will be in place to safely manage motorists, pedestrians and road crews through work areas.
Residents may also notice construction machinery operating overnight, increased activity around work sites and odours associated with newly laid and curing asphalt.
Access conditions may change as works progress between locations.
Why the works are being completed at night
Undertaking resurfacing works overnight helps minimise disruption to normal daytime traffic movements across Mount Isa.
Night works also provide crews with a suitable window to complete milling and asphalt installation while allowing the road surface sufficient time to cure before being reopened to normal traffic.
Road safety
Motorists travelling through affected areas are asked to:
- Slow down when approaching and travelling through roadwork zones.
- Follow all temporary road signs and traffic management arrangements.
- Follow the directions of Traffic Control Officers.
- Allow additional travel time, particularly when travelling through affected areas overnight.
- Remain alert for workers, machinery, temporary lane changes and changed road conditions.
Temporary lane closures and diversions may change throughout the works depending on operational requirements.
Council asks all motorists to take extra care when travelling through these areas and to help keep road workers and other road users safe.
