Feral Animal Bounty Program Guidelines
Council has adopted a 12 month trial program to address feral animal challenges across the region. Feral animal bounties have been implemented across Queensland to assist in managing wild dog and feral cat numbers. The trial is available to rural land holders and recreational shooters enrolled in the program.
Program Details
Timing:
The trial will accept carcass’ four times a week, Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday between the hours of 8am and 12pm at the Animal Management Facility, 21 Richardson Road, Mount Isa.
Animals will be assessed for compliance with the trial guidelines, data captured for the trial program and compliance with relevant statutes.
Payment:
The payment will be made to the recipients nominated bank account within 30 days.
Registration
To participate in this program, you must register with Council prior to commencing work.
Prior to registration, please download and complete the Creditor Details Form(PDF, 345KB) and include it when you fill out the registration form.
To register you must fill out this form found here and provide a copy of your weapons license and a letter from a local land holder authorising you to shoot on their land.
You can add additional landholders letters once registered however only rural properties within the Mount Isa Local Government Area are eligible.
Your registration will be assessed within 10 working days.
Q&A
Does this apply to trapped cats?
No – If you have trapped cats these must be assessed by Council and processed according to State legislation.
Can I catch animals from the city and include them in the program?
No – This applies to feral and wild animals from rural properties only. Any domestic animals attempted to be included in the program will be reported to QPS for investigation.
Why has Council started this trial?
Feral animals damage our pastoral economy and have a significant impact on native animal populations. Bounty programs are successfully run across regional Queensland.
What level of evidence is required to claim the bounty?
Participants in the program must pre-register this includes providing specific permission from the landholder where the animals will be captured.
What happens when the program funding is exhausted?
If the program funding is exhausted, it will be presented to Council for further assessment.
What is Rural Land?
Rural land for the purpose of this trial is land zoned within the Mount Isa City Council Planning Scheme as Rural.
Note: weapons licensing requirements for discharging firearms in proximity to built up areas applies.
