Materials Recovery Facility

Mount Isa City Council is proud to operate a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), located within the city’s Waste Management Facility. This facility has been fully operational since March 2025 and represents a significant step forward in our commitment to sustainable waste management.

In addition to the MRF, we are enhancing our Waste Transfer Station by expanding convenient drop-off points for residents. These stations are designed to make it easier for the community to sort and separate materials, turning everyday waste into valuable resources.

The following items can be left in the designated areas at the Mount Isa City Council landfill for recycling:

	Metal - ferrous		Cup lids
	Metal - Aluminium		Engine oil
	Mattresses		Mouse, ink, other computer peripheries
	E-waste: TV and Computers		Rechargeable batteries from all type of E-waste
	Car Batteries		Small batteries
	Green Waste		All type of cables

Please note: we do not accept the following items at the Mount Isa Waste Management Facility:

Liquid waste
Gas bottles
Fire extinguishers

Recycling

The following items can be left in the designated areas at the Mount Isa City Council landfill for recycling:

Batteries - wet or dry, including car batteries
E-waste - any electrical appliance which normally plugs into a wall
Refrigerators/freezers
Metal - all types (ferrous and non-ferrous)

Please note: we do not accept the following items at the Mount Isa Waste Management Facility:

Liquid waste, including cooking oil and mineral oil
Gas bottles
Fire extinguishers

The Waste Management Facility is located at 150 Jessop Drive, Mount Isa, about 1.8km from the intersection of Sunset Drive (at the Cemetery) and Enterprise Road.
