Works on Council Property
In accordance with the Council's Road Reserve Policy and Local Laws, construction works on Council property require approval in some circumstances. For example:
- Widening existing driveways*;
- Constructing second driveways*;
- Installation of planter boxes/gardens/irrigation outside the fenceline/property boundary;
- Landscaping verge outside the fenceline/property boundary with concrete / gravel / pavers
- Installation of drainage adaptors onto the kerb and channel;
In some cases, works may be low impact or deemed in accordance with the Policy and Local Laws, customers are welcomed to contact Council for advice. For example, these may include:
- Resurfacing existing driveways from gravel to concrete but no change to the entry lip of the driveway*
- Planting Trees on the verge outside the property
- Installation of letterboxes (preferred to be on the fenceline however terrain and obstacles may allow installation against the kerb and channel)

In accordance with the City of Mount Isa Planning Scheme, driveway widths, locations and slopes are managed under Schedule 6: Engineering Works and Services Planning Scheme and Parking, Access and Loading Code. Construction should adhere to IPWEA Vehicle Drawings:
Residential: RSD-100 and RSD-101
Heavy Duty: RSD-102

AO 3.1
Maximum total driveway widths are:
(a) 6 metres for an allotment where principal use is a residential activity; or
(b) 16 metres or 50 per cent of the length of the road frontage, whichever is the lesser for an allotment where principal use is a centre activity, entertainment activity or Industry activity; or
(c) 6 metres where the principal use is not indicated in (a) or (b) above.
Note—For the purposes of this requirement the width of the driveway is to be measured at the boundary between the allotment and the road reserve carriageway.

Fees and Charges
An application fee of $440.60 (GST Exempt) will apply to Works on Council Property applications. This is made up of the following fee adopted in the Register of Cost Recovery Fees 2025/26(PDF, 1MB):
- Lodgement and Processing - Per Application of $146.70 (GST Exempt)
- Assessment and Approval - Per Application of $102.00 (GST Exempt)
- Inspection and Final - Per Application of $191.90 (GST Exempt)
