Mount Isa City Council in conjunction with the North West Queensland Regional Organisation of Councils (NWQROC) has engaged Leak Detection Services to undertake leak detection and valve service assessments of the Mount Isa water reticulation network commencing on the 27 October and completed by about the 7 November 2025.
Sound monitoring equipment will be used by the contractor to check for water main and service leaks. The sound monitors are typically attached to hydrants, valve fixtures and service meter installations. The locations of the leaks can be identified fairly accurately from the software. Leak reports will be issued to the Water team for rectification. This project is largely funded by Federal Funding through the Regional Drought Resilience Program with additional funding from LGAQ and the member Council’s of the NWQROC. The Contractor will be working 6 days per week with some night work on busy roads. The acoustic monitors may get too much interference for day work on busy roads. In such cases, they may also need to attach monitors to water meters if a leak is detected on the main. No interruption to water services is expected when the leak detection monitoring is underway.
The Contractor will also undertake sluice valve operational checks to report any defects in the valves opening, closing or if it is leaking. The operation of the valves may cause a very brief interruption to water flows in the main but consumers are unlikely to notice any impact.
Please do not hesitate to contact Mount Isa City Council if you have any queries.
