Mount Isa Walks Together in Remembrance Mount Isa came together in a moving show of remembrance for the Miners’ Memorial Walk, honouring the men and women who have lost their lives through the city’s long mining history.Community members, families, friends and colleagues walked side by side to remember those who are no longer with us and to recognise the generations of people whose hard work, courage and contribution have helped shape Mount Isa.

For a city built around a proud and enduring connection to mining, the walk was an important opportunity to reflect not only on Mount Isa’s history, but on the people and families behind it. It was a time to share memories, acknowledge loss and ensure the stories of those who contributed to the city are not forgotten.

The occasion also highlighted the significance of the future Mount Isa Miners’ Memorial at Frank Aston Hill, a $4.7 million project that will establish a permanent place for remembrance, reflection and connection.The memorial will provide families, friends and the wider community with a dedicated place to pay their respects, while ensuring future generations have an opportunity to learn about the people whose lives and work form an important part of Mount Isa’s story.

It will also recognise the strength of the families and community members who have carried the memories of their loved ones forward and the enduring connection between Mount Isa and its mining heritage.

The Miners’ Memorial Walk demonstrated the strength of that connection, bringing people together with a shared purpose to remember those we have lost, support the families who carry their memory, and ensure their contribution is never forgotten.

As Mount Isa looks towards the future, the stories and legacy of its mining community will remain an important part of the city’s identity.
