Mount Isa SES Awards Presentation
Published on 22 May 2025
Councillors John Tully and Travis Crowther were proud to represent Mount Isa City Council at the Mount Isa SES Awards presentation at the Salvation Army Hall last night, Wednesday May 21.
Cr Tully, who presented the SES Meritorious Service Medal to four recipients - Gavin Donnelly, Annette Fray, Geoff Le Noel, and Tina Munokoa - thanked SES volunteers for their dedication to the organisation and to their community.
"SES and its volunteers play a vital role during natural disasters, with the SES acting as a critical support agency, easing the burden on Council resources," Cr Tully said.
"In Queensland, when cyclones lash our coastlines, when floods cut off communities, or when storms bring destruction to homes – SES volunteers are there, ready to help people during their time of need.
"Their work isn’t glamorous. It’s difficult and often dangerous, but it’s vital, and has saved countless lives over the years. On behalf of Council and our community, thank you for everything you do in keeping us all safe and better prepared."
SES Western Northern Region Area Controller Sandie Wallison said the ceremony was about honouring the dedication, courage, and selfless service of SES volunteers – "those who go above and beyond, who train tirelessly, respond quickly, and always stand ready when needed most".
The SES Meritorious Service Medal is a state-level award that is presented after providing 10 years of regular and effective participation in the SES.
Other awards presented last night include the Area SES Week Award, the SES Week Award, the Queensland Disaster Resilience Champion pin, and the SES Citation.
The Area SES Week Award acknowledges the special contribution by an individual to the SES, through compassion, support, commitment, diligence, or skill.
The SES Week Award is for distinguished services to the SES.
The Queensland Disaster Resilience Champion pin is special recognition for the efforts of SES volunteers during the 2023-24 summer, which was one of the most challenging that Queenslanders have faced.
The SES Citation is in recognition of the significant service all SES staff and volunteers provide to the Queensland community.
