Mayor Peta MacRae and Deputy Mayor Kim Coghlan had the opportunity to meet with the CEO of Glencore, Gary Nagle, earlier this month while he was in Australia.

Cr MacRae and Cr Coghlan expressed the Mount Isa community's sentiment towards the upcoming underground copper mine closure and uncertainty around the copper smelter's future.

They advocated for haste regarding conducting feasibility processes for the Blackstar open-cut project, and highlighted the importance of the proposed Green Gravity project in terms of energy and job creation.

They also discussed the social transition plan, social licence, how many key Glencore staff came up through the Mount Isa Mines pathway, and Mount Isa's contribution to global mining technology.
