Mount Isa City Council is continuing to work towards the completion of the John Campbell Miles Memorial Lookout Redevelopment Project, with Council now taking the next steps to progress the remaining works.

Council has recently exercised its rights under the contract and regained control of the project site and the remaining works.

The immediate priority is to secure the site and undertake an assessment of the current status of construction works. This assessment will help Council determine the most effective pathway forward to complete the project.

The John Campbell Miles Memorial Lookout is an important community asset for Mount Isa, and Council understands the community is eager to see the redevelopment completed and the lookout reopened for residents and visitors.

Council remains committed to delivering the project and ensuring the necessary steps are taken as the remaining works are assessed and progressed.

At this stage, Council is unable to provide a revised completion date. A further update will be shared with the community once Council’s assessments are complete and there is more information available about the pathway forward.

As contractual matters remain ongoing, Council is unable to comment further on those matters at this time.

Subcontractors and suppliers who may be owed monies by the Principal Contractor are strongly encouraged to seek independent legal advice.

Site remains closed

While Council works through the next stages of the project, the John Campbell Miles Memorial Lookout remains an active construction site and is closed to the public.

For the safety of the community, residents and visitors are asked not to enter the construction site or access closed areas.

Council appreciates the community’s patience and interest in the project and will continue to provide updates as further information becomes available.
