Pick Up Free Plants at Go Green Isa Day
Published on 19 May 2025
Green-thumbed Mount Isans will be able to indulge their passions for all things horticulture at Council’s Go Green Isa Day later this month.
The event will be held at the Mount Isa Mines Entertainment Centre, Buchanan Park, on Saturday, May 31, from 9am to 2pm.
Residents who had previously registered with Council to be allocated free plants will be able to collect their saplings and herb or veggie seedlings on the day.
The saplings comprise a variety of native plants – including wattles, callistemons, banksias, eucalyptus and grevilleas – as well as citrus and fruit trees. All of the plants have been kindly supplied by local business Leichhardt River Nursery.
There will also be kids’ activities such as a DIY plant seedling stall, toys, colouring-in stations, and a kids’ activity hosted by the Lead Alliance; information stalls (Council’s Local Laws, Waste Management, and Biosecurity departments); entertainment; interactive workshops; giveaways; and food and drink stalls.
The giveaways will include composters, benchtop caddies, and compost buckets featuring Indigenous artwork.
Councillor James Coghlan, who looks after the Environment portfolio, says Go Green Isa Day is all about promoting and encouraging sustainable environmental practices in our community.
“The event highlights the benefits of using native plants and the importance of recycling in our city. It also aligns with World Environment Day, celebrated globally on June 5 every year, supporting our commitment to a greener and more sustainable future,” Cr Coghlan said.
Camooweal residents who registered for Go Green Isa will be emailed with their plant-collection details.
