Mount Isa City Council advises residents and motorists that emergency sewer repair works will commence at the intersection of Marian Street and East Street from 7:00pm on Tuesday, 7 July.
The works are required to repair a section of sewer trunk main beneath the roadway that has partially collapsed. While the damage is currently contained, delaying repairs could result in a more significant infrastructure failure, potentially impacting essential sewer services and the surrounding road network.
To minimise disruption to daytime traffic, works will be undertaken overnight between 7:00pm and 5:00am and are expected to continue for approximately two to three nights, with completion anticipated by Thursday, 9 July, weather and site conditions permitting.
Traffic Changes
Traffic management measures will be in place throughout the works, including temporary lane closures and traffic diversions to ensure the safety of motorists, pedestrians and work crews.
Motorists are asked to follow all signage, observe speed restrictions and comply with directions from traffic controllers.
What Residents Can Expect
The repair site contains a complex network of underground services, including water mains, sewer infrastructure, electrical conduits and telecommunications assets. As excavation progresses, unforeseen conditions may be identified that could require additional works or extend the project duration.
Council and its contractors have undertaken extensive planning and are prepared to respond to any issues encountered during the repairs. However, as with any emergency excavation involving buried infrastructure, some uncertainty remains until the work area is fully exposed and assessed.
