Mount Isa City Council is advising residents and businesses in Camooweal of upcoming planned water shutdowns required to facilitate essential upgrades to the town's water infrastructure network.
The works form part of Council's ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving critical infrastructure and ensuring the long-term reliability of water services for the Camooweal community.
To enable the upgrade works to be undertaken safely and efficiently, temporary interruptions to water supply will occur during the following periods:
Shutdown Schedule
Monday 21 September to Friday 25 September 2026
- Daily from 8:30am to 3:30pm
Monday 28 September to Friday 2 October 2026
- Daily from 8:30am to 3:30pm
Council advises customers that water services within the identified work area may be unavailable during these times. Water supply is expected to be restored at the completion of each day's work.
Affected Area
The planned shutdown will affect properties within the designated work zone in central Camooweal, including areas surrounding:
- Frances Street
- Nowranie Street
- Austral Street
- Morrison Street
- Cronin Street
- Barkly Street
The works are located near the Camooweal State School precinct and surrounding residential properties. Residents are encouraged to review the attached map to determine whether their property is within the affected area.
Community Information
To minimise disruption during the shutdown periods, Council recommends that residents and businesses:
- Store an adequate supply of drinking water prior to each shutdown period.
- Fill containers for cooking, washing and other household needs.
- Consider the needs of elderly residents, young children and pets.
- Make arrangements for any activities or equipment that rely on a continuous water supply.
Council also advises motorists and pedestrians that work crews and construction equipment may be operating within the project area during the scheduled works period.
Investing in Essential Infrastructure
These upgrades are an important investment in Camooweal's water network and will assist in improving the reliability and performance of the town's water infrastructure into the future.
Council understands that water interruptions can be inconvenient and thanks residents, businesses and community organisations for their patience and cooperation while these necessary improvements are carried out.
