Recent Council plans to develop a new Library Master Plan have been expanded, thanks to early input from the community.

Councillor Peta MacRae, who is responsible for the Library portfolio, said following recent communication with community members and key stakeholders, the scope of the Library Precinct Master Plan had been expanded for greater community use and benefits.

“What residents and library users indicated is that there was an overall need for a more integrated master-planning approach to also include the precinct around the library, featuring the Civic Centre, Council Administration Building, gardens and green spaces,” Cr MacRae said.

“These places were seen as inextricably linked to the success of the future design and usage of the library, and are critical to factor into creating stronger place experiences there.

“As such, Council recognised this need and as has since approved an approach to the development of a broader Mount Isa Civic Precinct Plan, inclusive of these linked places and spaces within the precinct.”

To ensure much of the region has the opportunity to have their say, Council is extending the Library Precinct Master Plan survey closing date to Sunday, February 7.

“The library is a critical community asset, and one that every generation can connect with in many different ways,” Cr MacRae said.

“Whether you work, recreate, create or connect there, we strongly encourage everyone in the community to have their say and complete the online survey before it closes on February 7.”

Additional rounds of community and key stakeholder interviews will also occur to help create optimum insights into the community’s vision for the new Library Precinct Master Plan.
