Chileya Luangala will be joining Council as its new Corporate and Community Director.

Council is pleased to announce that it will soon be welcoming Chileya Luangala as its new Corporate and Community Director, as of Tuesday, June 1, 2021.

Chileya will be coming to Mount Isa from the Shire of Toodyay Council, near Perth in Western Australia, where she was the Manager of Corporate and Community Services, as well as the acting Chief Executive Officer.

Council Chief Executive Officer David Keenan said as the Corporate and Community Director, Chileya will be responsible for the management of Council’s financial sustainability and corporate responsibilities, as well strengthening the role Council plays in economic and community development.

Ms Luangala will also have carriage of the implementation of a number of Information Technology initiatives and the management of regulatory services.

“Chileya is an accomplished Local Government professional, with experience in various disciplines ranging from accounting to waste management,” Mr Keenan said.

“Chileya has extensive experience as a finance manager and has worked in both the Local Government and private sectors, in Australia as well as in Zambia.

“We look forward to welcoming Chileya on board as our new Corporate and Community Director and working with her to achieve the best outcomes for the City of Mount Isa.”

Chileya, who is also the LG Professionals WA Finance Committee’s Deputy Chairperson and a member of the LG Professionals Australia Women Leadership Advisory Group, said: “I enjoy guiding teams to create the added value of skilled professionals who work diligently to ensure quality service and compliance with relevant regulations, accounting standards, organisational processes and procedures.”
