Community Grants and Events Sponsorship Program Applications to Open

Published: 29th January 2021

A biannual Council funding program that assists local community and sporting groups is about to open for applications.

Round 2 of the 2020/21 Community Grants and Events Sponsorship Program will be open from Monday, February 1, until 5pm on Monday, March 1.

Previous community grants recipients have utilised their funds to carry out upgrades or repairs to their premises or assets, or to purchase equipment to assist with the ongoing volunteer work they carry out in the community.

Some improvements have included a new suspension system for the Mount Isa SES’s ute, new ceiling fans at the Mount Isa Sikaran Martial Arts dojo, line-marking equipment for the Mount Isa AFL Club, and new signs and security lighting at the Mount Isa Judo Academy.

Local events to have previously received funding include the 2020 Jemena Northern Outback Business Awards, Zonta Club of Mount Isa’s International Women’s Day Dinner, and St Joseph’s Mount Isa Christmas Fair.

Mayor Danielle Slade said the Community Grants and Sponsorship Program assists local community organisations and sporting groups that undertake projects, activities and events that make positive contributions to the quality of life in Mount Isa.

“We will always be grateful to these groups, clubs and organisations for the often-unrecognised work they do in in the community, and this program is one way that we can thank and recognise them for their efforts,” Cr Slade said.

“I encourage local community organisations or sports clubs to complete and submit their applications for this program by the March 1 closing date.

“If representatives would like any further information or advice about the grant-application process, I encourage them to contact Council’s Community Development Officer during business hours.”
