Councillor Bio
I would like to thank the voting public of Mount Isa for the opportunity to serve as their elected Councillor.
The honour of being a Mount Isa City Councillor is one that I take very seriously as there are always a number of confronting issues that we as a community face.
Although some decisions are sometimes tough and unpopular, making decisions in the long-term best interests of our community is very satisfying. It has been a great honour to serve as your elected official to Mount Isa City Council for the previous two terms from 2012 and 2016 and I will continue to serve the best interests of our community in this term.
As a Councillor I have previously promoted Mount Isa as a livable community through events, the arts and tourism. I have done this through participation on committees that promote community engagement and participation in planning and executing community events.
I still believe Mount Isa has a strong sense of community and with the right direction we can positively promote Mount Isa and develop our city into a more attractive and vibrant place to live and work.
A little about my background. I was born in Cloncurry in 1966, I moved to Mount Isa in 1982 for an electrical apprenticeship at Mount Isa Mines. After 38 years in this community I have married, raised children and made Mount Isa my home. In my opinion there is no better place to live and raise a family. I want to make Mount Isa that place for the many other people who choose to live here now and in the future.
My experience and accomplishments in former Councils has given me confidence to believe I can perform well during this term as well. As mentioned previously our community has many challenges to face and I will use my experience to help overcome these challenges and continue to improve the livability of Mount Isa.
I believe our city has many individuals and groups who work silently and in a positive way to improve the livability of our city through sports, arts and other community interests. I know that there are people in our community who see a bright future through diversification and growth. I am in a position to help these people navigate local government to achieve positive outcomes for everyone.
Once again thank you Mount Isa for placing your trust in my abilities as your Councillor, I will work hard for your interests and the betterment of our community.
