CR LAUREN MERRICK | |
| | Cr Merrick was born in Sherwood, Brisbane in 1948 and, for her formative years, home was on Curtis Island. In 1960 her parents moved the family to Oxford Park, Brisbane. Cr Merrick married Barry Merrick in 1972 and they have two children, David and Ann. “In January 1977 Barry was transferred to TAFE College Mount Isa, and we begun our love affair with Mount Isa. I enjoy quilting and playing in my sewing room. I’m a member of Mount Isa Quilters. Whereever I go in the world, I have always promoted Mount Isa any way I can. I'm very proud to call myself a citizen of Mount Isa. As a Councillor, I aim to bring the Council back to the Community and have more Community involvement in Council policies and visions.
Living in the North-West has given me confidence to be able to strive and do things that I never thought possible while living in Brisbane. In the eleven years I was Secretary for the Mount Isa Show, I was able to meet people from all walks of life, from Premiers to small children and to work with a team of dedicated people in organising and presenting the best show in the North-West. This developed my skills of working with a team of like minded people, and when need be, able to make decisions and to bend or stand strong where needed. Mount Isa is the home of my heart and here I intend to stay.” p. 0439 079 101 Statement of Interests |
CR ROBBIE KATTER | |
| | Cr Katter was born and raised in Charters Towers (his parents moved there from Cloncurry a couple of years before he was born). His father’s family have been in the North West for a couple of generations before him. “I own and run a property valuation firm in town. Have worked in this market since 2001 and moved to the city in early 2005. I worked two years in the mines at Charters Towers before studying at university and entering the valuation industry working in Brisbane and then Townsville for a total of 5 years before moving to Mount Isa. I am a large footy enthusiast being partial to Rugby League. Played a lot of Rugby League until I was stopped by a recurring knee injury. Currently, I am President of Black Star Rugby League Football Club. Have played cricket at a local level and enjoyed a minor foray into local theatre productions. I enjoy a bit of Golf and Tennis and can also be partial to relaxing with a guitar at home. I wanted to be a Councillor was because I wanted to hear some issues discussed more that I felt weren’t being confronted. I think I can offer a positive direction as a member or council by balancing visions and proposed development against responsible and viable financial operating. I believe I have a good connection with the average Joe on the street, and believe that this goes a long way when making decisions for the good of the city. During my time at Council my goals are to put strategies into place to optimise the opportunities for all types of development in Mount Isa at present with a focus on residential accommodation. The window of opportunity is open now for the city to attract development and we, as the council need to be the conduit for this to occur. I would like to see Buchanan Park used more and to achieve a sense of unity between user groups of the facility.” p. 0428 394 371 Statement of Interests |
