EMPLOYMENT
Working for Local Government
The Mount Isa City Council provides many important services such as:
- Building and maintaining roads, bridges and buildings
- Arranging for rubbish to be collected and recycled
- Providing water and sewerage systems, and
- Providing libraries, parks, public gardens, playing fields and swimming pools
Mount Isa City Council provides employment for approximately 180 employees in a variety of full time, part time, temporary and casual positions.
These positions cover the full scope of Council operations from administration, clerical, professional and technical roles to operational positions within the various sections.

Traineeship
A Traineeship with the Mount Isa City Council will be for a period of 12 months and it involves both on and off the job training through TAFE or another registered training organisation. At the completion of the 12 month Traineeship, ongoing employment opportunities with Council will be reviewed however Council is under no obligation to provide ongoing employment.

Cadetship
Mount Isa City Council offers Cadet positions in various disciplines including Engineering, Planning and Accounting. Cadet's are employed by Council full-time to complete a 12 month Traineeship before commencing their studies. Employees can elect to either work full-time and study externally or study full-time and work for Council during university semester breaks.

Work Experience
The Mount Isa City Council is able to offer unpaid Work Experience to local school students at various times throughout the year. If you are interested in undertaking Work Experience with the Mount Isa City Council, please discuss this will your Careers Advisor at your school who will contact the Council on your behalf to source Work Experience opportunities.
Employment Benefits
Staff are employed under the Mount Isa City Council Certified Agreement 2009.
Working Hours
Administration, Library and Civic Centre full-time employees work a 36.25 hour week under a Flextime Agreement.
Outdoor full-time employees work 40 hours per week with a rostered day off each month.
Annual Leave
All full-time employees are entitled to five weeks annual leave for each year of service.
Superannuation
Mount Isa City Council contributes 12% superannuation when the employee contributes 6% towards superannuation. Should employees elect not to contribute 6% then the Mount Isa City Council will contribute 9% superannuation.
