Water

Mount Isa Supply

Treated water is purchased by Council from the Mount Isa Water Board and is distributed to households and businesses within the watered area of the City.  Council undertakes further testing of the purchased water at 21 locations distributed throughout the watered area as follow up and confirmation that the supply continues to meet the quality requirements of the Water Act 2000 after it leaves the Mount Isa Terminal Reservoir.  Six water reservoirs located around the hill tops of the city act as buffer tanks for the distribution system.

Mount Isa has 174kms of mains ranging in size from 80 to 450mm, with five reservoirs servicing a population of 23 500 people.

Camooweal Supply

Camooweal uses a sub-artesian bore supply which is pumped up to two gravity header tanks to ensure a constant water supply and pressure. The town supply is automatically chlorinated after leaving the reservoir tanks, on the way to the user.Camooweal has 2.6kms of pipe mains varying in size from 80 to 150mm servicing a population of 250 people. The two tanks have a storage capacity of 36Kls supplied by two bores of a combined capacity of 500L/min flows.

Water Meters

Council meters the consumption of all water connections within the city of Mount Isa.
Presently, domestic users have an allowance of 900 kls per year with another 50kls allocated to keep the nature strip in good condition.

Excess water charges apply to domestic water consumption beyond these amounts.
Council maintain meters to accurately measure consumption and assess the need for replacement of meters if discrepancies outside of acceptable limits occur. For further information, contact Council during working hours on 4747 3200.
