DOMESTIC GARBAGE SERVICE
The Mount Isa City Council offers a twice weekly garbage collection service for the standard 240 litre ‘wheelie’ bins.
For times where standard wheelie bins are unsuitable for the amount of refuse accumulated (ie: yearly yard clean-ups, or shed clean-outs), an 3000 litre bulk bin can be hired from the council at a modest fee.

‘Wheelie’ bin replacements can be purchased from the Mount Isa City Council for $150.00. For maintenance or replacement, please contact the council on (07) 4747 3200. Stolen ‘wheelie’ bins must be reported to the Mount Isa Police.
‘Wheelie’ bins have a serial number and are assigned to street addresses, they can be traced by this number. Please ensure that your ‘wheelie’ bin remains at the address it is registered to if you sell the property or move to another address.
MOBILE MUSTER
Did you know that the Mount Isa City Council has joined with Planet Ark in the Mobile Muster campaign?
The Mount Isa City Council administration office on West Street has a Mobile Muster collection box, simply drop down any old and disused mobiles and their chargers and the Mount Isa City Council and Planet Ark will take care of the rest!
MOUNT ISA CITY COUNCIL LANDFILL
You can find the Mount Isa City Council landfill site by travelling along Jessop Drive (from the Sunset Cemetery) for approximately 1.8km.
The business hours of the landfill are:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday
8am – 5pm
Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, and Public Holidays
8am – 6pm
The landfill is closed for Christmas Day
In November 2009, the Mount Isa City Council instituted a fee for using the landfill after the Queensland State Government altered their responsibilities and funding. These fees are as follows:
All vehicles under 2 tonne* 2 tonne and under 5 tonne* 5 tonne and under 10 tonne* Semi-Trailer | $3.00 $20.00 $40.00 $80.00 |
*A surcharge of $16.00 will apply for each additional trailer.
However, upon payment of your rates notices the Mount Isa City Council provides 3 free tokens which can be used for entry into the landfill.
Further charges are imposed for the disposal of certain kinds of waste such as:

RECYCLING
The following items can be left in the designated areas at the Mount Isa City Council landfill for recycling.
- Sump (mineral) oil - non commercial operators only
- Cooking oil - to be left in its container
- Batteries - wet or dry, including car batteries
- E-waste - any electrical appliance which normally pugs into a wall
- Refrigerators / freezers
- Metal - all types (ferrous and non-ferrous)
- Green waste - kept separate from standard waste
- Construction rubble - or building supplies
