Noise can disrupt sleep and interfere with daily activities. If the noise is loud enough it can also have a detrimental impact on peoples' health.
Council is responsible for regulating:
- Air conditioning noise
- Amplifier devices - loud-hailers, megaphones, public address systems etc
- Animal noise
- Building work noise
- Pumps - water tanks, pool and spa
- Power boat engine noise
- Refrigeration Equipment noise
- Tools and maintenance noise - generators, lawn mowers, edge cutters, leaf blowers, nail guns, chainsaws etc
Lodging a Complaint with Council
To make a complaint to Council about a nuisance issue you will need to put your complaint in writing. Council accepts the following forms of complaints:

Include the following:
- Name, address and phone number - this information is kept confidential
- Nuisance description - include as much information as you can, date, time, description, source address etc
People are sometimes unaware that their activities are causing a nuisance. Mount Isa City Council encourages all residents and business operators to talk to their neighbours about nuisance problems before making a complaint.
Council is not responsible for:
- noise from music, parties, loud speakers - contact the local Police
- noisy vehicles and trail bikes - contact the local Police
- burglar alarms - contact the local Police
- native animals and birds, such as crows and magpies - contact Parks and Wildlife
- noise from premises with a liquor licence - contact Liquor Licencing
- noise nuisances from State Government properties or activities that are regulated by the State Government - Contact the Environmental Protection Agency on 1300 130 372.
