The Mount Isa City Council owns and maintains the Camooweal aerodrome. Council does not charge a landing fee for this facility. The aerodrome’s runway and apron is bitumen sealed and whilst it does not have hangers or passenger terminal facilities, the aerodrome is within walking distance from the heart of the Camooweal township. The aerodrome operates solar powered runway and apron lights and is registered with CASA.
The quite aerodrome is visited by the Royal Flying Doctor aircraft for the town’s weekly clinics and offers a potential base for any emergency evacuation/food supply that may be needed in the region and into the Northern Territory during disaster events.
The aerodrome is restricted to authorised access only and the Aerodrome’s Manager can be contacted on 47473200 or 0439661756 to discuss the aerodrome’s usage or for more information.
