ISA EXPERIENCE GALLERY
When you first enter the gallery, you may think that this could be ‘yet another’ museum experience. At Isa Experience, however, the gallery lives, entertains and enthralls. From the fascinating insight into the mining industry development to the cultural diversity of Mount Isa shown in the theatrette movies, to the depictions of the quirkiness of daily life in the early days, the gallery is both vibrant and entertaining.
The stunning, award-winning, dual plasma screens mysteriously begin as you enter the exhibit space. Blending the Indigenous and white perspectives, it dramatically concludes with the didgeridoo ‘morphing’ into the modern lead stack that dominates the city skyline. The Isa Experience gallery gives an intimate and in-depth perspective to the development of a multi-cultural society that existed well before the term was coined.
OUTBACK PARK
The Outback Park is an extensive creative landscape that captures visitors attention, with a central lagoon surrounded by lush naive plantings and a Lawn Hill gorge inspired waterfall.
A bridge extends across the lagoon and the paths lead around the park to various shaded rest spots where you can stop and relax or enjoy your lunch.
RIVERSLEIGH FOSSIL CENTRE
The Riversleigh Fossil Centre educates and interprets for visitors the fossils extracted from the nearby Riversleigh fossil fields. These finds have been depicted as dioramas and exhibited in an authentic setting to illustrate the unique discoveries in one of the world’s richest fossil fields. Unlike many other fossil deposits, the Riversleigh fossils are not just a snapshot in time, but a window on the development of early mammal megafauna over the past 30 million years.
Riversleigh Fossil Centre is unique among centres offering ‘fossil tourism’, as Palaeontologic research can be watched and experienced first hand during daily lab tours with our resident Palaeontologist. When important finds such as ‘Thingadonta,’ "Elvis the Pelvis’ and ‘Big bird’ first emerged from the vats of ascetic acid dissolving the limestone, tourists and visitors were able to observe in real time these landmark discoveries. The Riversleigh fossil deposit is the richest and one of the most important fossil fields inAustralia . Outback at Isa is entrusted by the scientific and academic world to further the research and continue the discoveries.
