Seniors Lunch

Senior Citizens are highly valued in the Mount Isa community, and a number of targeted activities have been initiated with Senior Citizens in mind.

Several times every year, the Mayor hosts a Morning Tea for Seniors, where all Mount Isa Seniors are invited to attend and enjoy activities, refreshments, and social connection with their peers and members of the Mount Isa City Council. For more information regarding the Seniors Morning Teas, please phone Council on 07 4747 3200.

The Mount Isa City Council Library runs a number of programs for Seniors every year, including the Tech Savvy for Seniors computer classes. For more information, please contact the Library on (07) 4747 3350.

Rates Assistance

Council provides pensioners with a discount on General Rates equivalent to that provided by the State Government, which is 20% of the amount levied to a maximum of $200.00.

Council will be continuing to provide an additional $80.00 per annum rebate to pensioners.

Eligibility is based on meeting the requirements under the Queensland State Government Pensioner Rate Subsidy Scheme.

Under no circumstances is an approved pensioner to receive a subsidy for more than one property, designated as his/her principal place of residence, in the same rates period. This applies within or outside of Queensland.

Eligible pensioners will be required to complete an Application for Rates Pensioner Concession form to initially apply for the rebate and each year Council will verify their entitlement with the relevant Government Department. Fresh applications will only be required if the pensioner status is not confirmed by the department.

Please note: Mount Isa City Council CANNOT accept emailed or electronic copies of the Rates Pensioner Concession Form. You must send or deliver the printed original to Mount Isa City Council with a readable copy of your Pensioner Concession Card.

Animal Ownership

Discounts apply to pensioners who own a domestic animal in Mount Isa.

Council will refund the difference between the full registration costs and pension concession fees, if the owner becomes an approved government pensioner.
