Story Telling

What is storytelling?

Storytelling is a great way of teaching your children the joys of books and the absolute pleasure that can come from reading. There is a wealth of evidence to support the fact that children who are read aloud to on a regular basis when they are young, are readily able to learn to read, once they start school.

There's also evidence to show that children who are slow to start reading can benefit from someone reading aloud to them. Reading aloud to your child is a great opportunity to share and bond with your child. At the same time, they're learning valuable skills and you're giving them a wonderful base for their education.

Remember - just 10 minutes a day - it's the best investment you can make in your child's future.

When is it on?

Storytelling sessions are held in the children's area of the library every Wednesday morning from 10:00am. With a different theme each month, there's always something fun going on. The current storytelling theme for May is frogs and some of our previous themes have included:

  • Bears
  • Feathered Friends
  • Dogs
  • Going to the Sea
