Are there any overdue fees?
No. However, if you have any items that are over 3 weeks overdue your borrowing privileges will be suspended until the items have been returned. Provided there is no one else waiting for them, you are able to renew your items by phoning 4747 3350, or visiting the library in person.
Can I access the Internet?
Internet access is available via 21 computer terminals. Bookings are not essential and can be made by phone or in person up to a week in advance. You need to bring in your library card to use the Internet. Access to the Internet is free for library members but printing incurs a cost of 30c per page as set out in the Council's fees and charges for the current year.
Can I bring my disc in?
Cameras, USBs and other storage media from outside the library are able to be used in the library computers.
Can I get help finding information?
For guidance on finding information, assistance with assignments, or recommendations of books to read ask at the library front counter.
Can I get help using computers?
Please ask library staff if you require assistance in using the computers. Up to 5 minutes assistance can be provided in use of the Internet and Microsoft software.
Can I use my mum/dad's card to borrow?
You are welcome to lend your card to someone else for the purpose of borrowing library items, but be aware that as the owner of the library card you are legally and financially responsible for all transactions performed with that card.
You are NOT able to use someone else's card to access the library computers.
Can my children join the library?
You may join children legally in your care who are aged 16 and under. You will be legally and financially responsible for all items borrowed on their cards.
Does the library have kids' activities?
Storytelling, games and craft activities for toddlers to pre-schoolers happen noisily every Wednesday 10:00 – 10:30am, followed by Toy Library at 10:45am and First 5 Forever (Baby Rhyme Time) for ages 0 - 5 years old happen every Monday 10.00 - 11.00am. Does the library have photocopying and fax facilities?
Black and white and colour photocopying is available with a cost involved. There are no faxing facilities.
Does the library have word processing facilities?

How do I become a library member?
Come into the library to join up as a member. Bring two forms of identification – one should show your current local address, e.g. driver's licence, rates notice or bill.
If you are not a Mount Isa resident, you may join as a provisional member. Provisional members will also be required to show identification as to their place of residence as well as another form of identification with their name on it. Provisional members are entitled to borrow 5 items.
How do I extend/renew my loans?
Provided your items are less than three weeks overdue and there is no-one else waiting for them, you are able to renew your loans by phoning 4747 3350, or visiting the library in person. Loans can be renewed 3 times.

How many items can I borrow?
15 items may be borrowed at any one time. (For full members)
Items may include any combination of loanable material, including magazines, large print books, books in languages other than English, DVDs, music CDs, books on CD, novels and non-fiction books for adults and children.
I think I have lost this item, what can I do?
You are required to pay the replacement cost of the item. Inform library staff next time you are in the library and an account will be sent.
If the book is at another library, can I have it brought to Mount Isa?
If the Mount Isa City Library does not hold the particular title you are after, please feel free to make a SPECIAL REQUEST. The item you require may be purchased or borrowed from another library (inter-library loan).
I'm sure I returned the item, yet it is still on my card?
Make sure you check thoroughly around your home. Let library staff know as soon as possible if you are unable to locate the item and an extension on the loan period may be obtained. Until the loan becomes 3 weeks overdue, you will still be able to borrow books. Library staff will check the shelves over a 3 week period and attempt to locate the item. If the item cannot be found during this time, you will be required to pay the replacement cost.
I'm just travelling through the area and want to be a member, can I join?
If you are in town for more than 1 week and from other areas in Queensland, interstate, or overseas, you may join as a PROVISIONAL member. Come into the library with proof of your permanent address and another form of identification. Provisional members are entitled to borrow 5 items.
The book I want is out on loan. What can I do?
Members may reserve any items that are already out on loan. When the item is available you will receive notification via phone. This is a free service. You may reserve the item by phoning the library on 4747 3350 or on your next visit to the library.
What are my obligations as a library member?
- Your membership card must be presented each time items are borrowed
- You are responsible for all items borrowed on your card
- Only you may use your membership card to use the library Internet and word processing computers
- Please advise staff if you change your address

The library is closed on Sundays and gazetted Public Holidays.
What do I do if I have lost my card?
Report the lost or stolen card to library staff immediately to ensure that another person does not use your card. Lost or stolen cards will be replaced on presentation of suitable identification.
What does the library do with its old books?
Old, discarded library items are available to the public for free. Some items are also donated to Mount Isa based charities and other non-profit organisations.
When can a child become an adult member?
Adult membership commences at age 17.
