Work back on track at Splashez Aquatic Centre
Aquatic Centre Update
Work at Splashez Aquatic Centre is progressing well, and is back on track to open next month in October.
Originally closed on July 16 to undergo facility upgrades, council staff and numerous local contractors experienced major setbacks after discovering significant leaks requiring specialised repairs and structural work as well as a substantial act of vandalism.
Mayor Joyce McCulloch said despite the setbacks, the project was on track and the site was a hive of activity every day.
“We’re really happy with the way things are going,” Cr McCulloch said.
“It’s definitely a major project; for one of the city’s most important and well utilised facility, it surprisingly hasn’t had any significant upgrades in almost 20 years, and it shows.”
“Even though it hasn’t gone the way we had hoped with the unexpected setbacks, it’ll end up being around three months of closure for a greatly improved facility, which will allow for an improved maintenance schedule and better general operations from now on.”
Council will continue to give updates into October.
