Update for Splashez Aquatic Centre

Mount Isa City Council is extremely disappointed to reveal that Splashez Aquatic Centre will not be reopened as early as anticipated.

After closing for maintenance and facility upgrades, extensive leaks and a damaged and deeply embedded storm water pipe under the pool has been identified which requires large excavations and removal of concrete slabs.

Mayor Joyce McCulloch said it was very unfortunate that the repairs would mean a longer closure, but if the damaged pipes were not repaired, the pool was likely sink further, causing irreparable damage.

“We are actually glad that we found this damage now, while maintenance was being undertaken, as it could have had disastrous consequences in the future,” Cr McCulloch said.

“We are deeply saddened that the pool will not be opened for our patrons and kids during the September school holidays, but I can promise that when the pool reopens, it will be better than ever before.”

The current upgrades include a brand new entrance, facade, and kiosk, which will service the fun park and skate park.

It will feature extensive upgrades to change rooms, retiling, refurbished meeting room and grandstand, installation of disabled lift and access chair, resurfacing of interface between fun park, skate park, and pool area, installation of barbecues and shade structures, relocation and upgrade of first aid room, and landscaping upgrades.

Cr McCulloch said it was time for the facility to receive the care and attention it deserved, and would be a wonderful upgrade for the community to enjoy.

“We are looking forward to finally revealing the new aquatic centre when all repairs have been addressed, and we will be throwing a fabulous reopening party with free entry for all when it is time.”

Updates regarding reopening will be shared through the local media and Council’s website and social media.
