Queensland Day Event Beefs Up the Fun in Mount Isa

Council is beefing up the fun for Queensland Day this year, with the Beef Beach and Beats community picnic event to be held on Sunday, June 9, from 1pm to 5pm at Buchanan Park.

Mayor Joyce McCulloch said with an afternoon chock full of beach volleyball, delicious food and great music from a live band, Beef Beach and Beats was gearing up to be the ultimate way for the whole family to celebrate and enjoy Queensland Day.

“We will have a beach volleyball court – complete with sand, a referee and linespeople – set up in Buchanan Park,” Cr McCulloch said.

“I encourage anyone who’s interested in taking part in the beach volleyball competition for the event to get a team together and nominate by signing up on our website.

“With our mild and very comfortable winters, this will be an ideal day out for everyone of all ages.”

Upon entry, each person will get a ticket for one free beef burger. Local band Bulldust will be providing the party music throughout the afternoon.

Gecko Outdoor Sports will be providing free kids’ activities, and there will also be a jumping castle and face-painting.

Beef Beach and Beats is a licensed event – beer, wine and pre-mixed drinks will be available for sale from a cash-only bar.

Mount Isa Mines Rodeo Queen Quest entrant Kate Lovett will also be running a fundraising stall, with hot chips, cold drinks and a sausage sizzle available.

People are encouraged to bring a picnic and blanket to sit on. BYO alcohol will not be permitted.
