Mount Isa City Council support Showman’s Guild of Australia donation to Drought Relief
Mount Isa City Council were delighted with the inclusion of the Show rides and side show games this year, after the Showman’s Guild of Australia and Brophy’s accepted the offer to attend.
What followed was a lovely gesture by Showmen Dave Hodgson and Elliott Brophy, who spoke to council about a donation to of $2.5k Drought Relief instead of site fees.
Although Council don’t charge site fees for the Showman’s Guild, Mr Hodgson said they were always prepared to make a donation towards the Isa Street festival to show their support of the event, but were delighted to work with Council to support Drought Relief this year.
“Council were kind enough to invite us down there under a free rental structure, and our committee, the Showman’s Guild of Australia, we always pay wherever we go, but instead we’re going to help the famers out with their plight, and the donation will go to them for their appeal,” Mr Hodgson said.
Mayor Joyce McCulloch said she was in great support of the donation going to such a worthy cause.
“It’s absolutely amazing for the Showman’s Guild to make this donation, we know how much it costs them to come to our community and put on the fun stuff for us,” Cr McCulloch said.
“As well as spending money in our city while they’re here, for them to turn around and recognise rural and regional Australia with this donation is a wonderful gesture.
“I encourage everyone to head along to side show alley at Rodeo this weekend and enjoy the rides and games provided by the Showman’s Guild.”
