Extensive Damage Caused to Family Fun Park
Mayor Joyce McCulloch has slammed the senseless actions of vandals who have caused $5000 worth of extensive damage to the Family Fun Park in recent days.
This weekend and last weekend, most of the signs in the park have been damaged – including throughout the popular “learn-to-ride” bike path – while on Sunday night, the facility’s steel fence panels were kicked out to force entry into the park, a metal fence railing was removed, and a large amount of rubbish was left strewn across the ground.
“There were empty rubbish bins literally a few metres away from where all this rubbish was found,” Cr McCulloch.
“This is an incredibly beloved park and we are sick of seeing the actions of a few cause such devastation to many by destroying and damaging public property and leaving big repair bills in their wake.
“This park is a popular facility for local families and their young children, and to see it left in this state is incredibly frustrating for Council and the whole community.
“We will be having discussions with Mount Isa Police as to whether there is any security-video footage of the damage, as we are seeking to lay charges against those who committed this vandalism.
“I also urge anyone who knows anything about this incident to contact Mount Isa Police on 4744 1111.”
Cr McCulloch says Council will review the lighting arrangements at the park, in consultation with Mount Isa Police, as well as seek to further upgrade the CCTV system there, as part of State Government funding Council recently was successful in applying for, under the Safe Communities program.
