Council to unveil new installation
While residents are noticing a change to traffic conditions due to construction works Rodeo Drive and Marian Street intersection, the reason behind the works is soon to be unveiled.
Mayor Joyce McCulloch said council had been working behind the scenes for several years to bring the plan to fruition and implement the project, which would be unveiled during rodeo week.
“This will be an important installation for the city, and an opportunity to acknowledge and pay tribute those that worked alongside Rotary to bring the Mount Isa Rodeo to life,” Cr McCulloch said.
“These people were true pioneers of our city, and instrumental in creating the rich history of Rodeo in Mount Isa and we are delighted to honour them in this way.
“This is a joint project between Mount Isa City Council and RADF and we are excited to unveil it on Tuesday, August 7, during rodeo week and the 60th anniversary of the Rodeo, which is very fitting.”
The steam engine which has been removed from the site has been taken to join the impressive collection of pieces at Outback at Isa where it will be maintained as part of the historical exhibition.
