Council pledges support to Mount Isa Race Club
As the new Mount Isa Race Club committee continue to forge ahead with a strong and positive future for the club, Mount Isa City Council has pledged support with a recent sponsorship package.
Committing to $10,000 worth of funding for the clubs upcoming events, Mayor Joyce McCulloch said it was extremely important for Council to support the race Club.
“The racing industry is very important to Mount Isa and a lot of people are heavily invested, both professionally and socially,” Cr McCulloch said.
“These events bring this community together as well as bringing people into the city, so economic stimulus is a major factor here, and we are incredibly supportive of this.
“I look forward to a happy and healthy future for the Mount Isa racing calendar, and this Council will offer our full support wherever possible.”
Race Club President Dan Ballard said since the club’s AGM at the end of September last year a key factor was to increase the revenue stream for the Club by attracting local sponsorship.
“We have had a number of dealings with Council and we know that they are behind the Race Club and supportive of what we are trying to achieve,” Mr Ballard said.
“It’s not just the Mayor and the Councillors, but the Council workers that we deal with as well, everyone has been great.”
Mr Ballard said Council had just this week pledged financial support of the Mount Isa Cup, one of the biggest social events on the Mount Isa calendar.
“We couldn’t be more grateful to Council for their support of the Mount Isa Cup.”
The Mount Isa Cup Race Day will be held on June 3, with local races beginning at 1pm. For more information, contact email@example.com
