Bumper Summer Season for Revamped Splashez Aquatic Centre
Splashez Aquatic Centre has had a bumper summer season, with more than 31,400 people enjoying the facility between late October last year and late March this year.
“There have been a lot of schools using Splashez in the past couple of months, and learn-to-swim classes and the Rapid River Ride have also been very popular,” Mayor Joyce McCulloch says.
“The IsaRATS running and triathlon club have even been holding the swimming parts of their junior triathlons there recently.
“With the wonderful warmer climate that we have here in Mount Isa, Splashez is a great facility for people of all ages in our community to make the most of all year round.”
Splashez had a soft reopening in late October last year after being closed for several months while extensive renovation work was being carried out. Its official reopening was on Australia Day this year.
While visitor numbers for the month of February were affected by the week or so of cooler temperatures and heavy and constant rain the city received, they picked up significantly during March and remain strong.
The facility’s café also is now fully operational, thanks to the recent installation of an exhaust fan, and sells a full menu of items, ranging from hot pies, hot dogs and toasted sandwiches to ice creams and soft drinks. The coffee machine is also able to create a range of coffees and hot drinks.
Splashez is on Isa Street and is open from 5.30am to 7pm, seven days a week.
