You can find the Mount Isa City Council landfill site by travelling along Jessop Drive (from the Sunset Cemetery) for approximately 1.8km.

The landfill is closed for Christmas Day

As of Tuesday 20th August 2013, changes to the landfill/waste management fees and how these are paid will come in to effect. With full commission of the weighbridge the following fee structure will apply:

Mount Isa City Council suggests that commercial businesses, who use the Landfill on a regular basis and purchase tip tokens, apply for a Debtor account with us, to be invoiced monthly.  Purchase orders will need to be given to the operator at time of entering the landfill.  A company monthly blanket order can be provided to us with prior approval.  This order number must be provided to staff on entry by the driver. A Debtor Form is attached to be completed and returned to the Council.

As of the 19th August the use of tokens will be discontinued.  Customers with any unused tokens can have them refunded with proof of purchase at the Mount Isa City Council Administration Building at located at 23 West Street.

The following items can be left in the designated areas at the Mount Isa City Council landfill for recycling.

  • Sump (mineral) oil  - non commercial operators only
  • Cooking oil - to be left in its container
  • Batteries - wet or dry, including car batteries
  • E-waste - any electrical appliance which normally pugs into a wall
  • Refrigerators / freezers
  • Metal - all types (ferrous and non-ferrous)
