Mount Isa to Welcome Large Numbers of Golfers for Outback Queensland Masters
Mayor Joyce McCulloch says she is very pleased that Mount Isa has been included in the itinerary for the inaugural Outback Queensland Masters event, which will be held later this year.
“I am incredibly happy that Mount Isa will not only be one of the hosts of the competition, but will also cap off the two-month event as it tours around Outback Queensland, stopping at towns and cities including Roma, Charleville, Boulia, Longreach and Winton from June until August,” Cr McCulloch said.
“This event will likely draw in large numbers of competitors from across the State, and maybe even the country, to Mount Isa as they try to win the elusive Million Dollar Hole-In-One Challenge.
“Council is more than happy to give our support to the Outback Queensland Masters, and we look forward to welcoming the many keen golfers who will visit our city for it.
“Mount Isa has such a terrific golf course and I’m certain the competitors who come here for the Outback Queensland Masters will find it an excellent green to compete on, and our city a friendly and inviting place to visit.
“We would certainly encourage them all to stay a bit longer, too, and see and experience everything the wonderful things our city has to offer – 2019 is the Year of Outback Tourism, after all, and the Outback Queensland Masters will be a good complement to that.
“As well, the Mount Isa Mines Rodeo will be held from August 9 to 11 this year, which is even more reason for the golfers to extend their stay and experience the many highlights that Mount Isa has on offer.”
Each event during the Outback Queensland Masters will take the form of two nine-hole rounds, played over two consecutive days, including a novelty hole at each location that connects to a local tourism experience.
