Community Feedback Sought on Proposed Miles Street Upgrade

Council is seeking constructive community feedback over a proposed upgrade of Miles Street, between Grace and Mary streets.

Due to the large number of accidents and near-misses along this stretch of Miles Street, particularly at the intersection of Miles Street and Mary Street, Council has applied for “blackspot” funding to undertake major remedial works.

Council is proposing to replace the single-row, “centre-of-road” parking with angle parking in each direction, incorporating a pedestrian walkway and refuge in between, similar to the parking found in the CBD on streets including Rodeo Drive and the some sections of West Street, Simpson Street and Miles Street.

Additional parking bays will also be constructed along Mary Street, between West Street and Camooweal Street.

It is also proposed that the Miles Street/Mary Street intersection be regraded, with the installation of a centre median and a “left turn only” lane westbound onto Mary, in an attempt to remedy identified issues with merging traffic and driver behaviour at the intersection.

At this stage, the proposed works are expected to be carried out in the 2019/2020 financial year.

Council is seeking constructive feedback from the community by Friday, March 29, 2019. Please email technicalservices@mountisa.qld.gov.au or call the Technical Services team on 4747 3200.
