Council to host Mount Isa New Year’s Eve Family Night

Free movies and fireworks will headline Mount Isa’s New Year celebrations.

The night will kick off at 4pm at the Entertainment Centre, Buchanan Park with the screening of the animated family film Peter Rabbit at 5pm.

A second film – Jumanji Welcome to The Jungle - will be screened at 7pm.

A spectacular fireworks display has also been planned for 9pm.

Mayor Joyce McCulloch invites the community to join the celebrations.

“We’ve organised a great night for all the family to welcome in the New Year,” Cr McCulloch said.

“There are always plenty of adult events held at the city’s numerous pubs and clubs, but we wanted to offer an event for families and those who wanted a more relaxed way to celebrate the New Year.”

“This first-time event will wrap up the exciting year that we’ve had, with more than 20 council events, including Welcoming Babies Day, Pet Day, Isa Street Festival, and Carols by Candlelight.”

Cr McCulloch said she hoped the community would be excited to have another option for entertainment on New Year’s Eve.

“Council’s New Year’s Eve program is a great option for families looking to celebrate the end of 2018,” Cr McCulloch said.

The event will also include community food stalls, amusements, lucky door prizes, and a licensed beer garden.
