Proposed Mount Isa City Council Biosecurity Plan

On 1 July 2016 the new Biosecurity Act 2014 (PDF, 1.5MB) was implemented.

The Act replaced the many separate pieces of legislation including the Land Protection (Pest and Stock Route Management) Act 2002 that were previously used to manage biosecurity. Decisions made under the Act will depend on the likelihood and consequences of the risk.

The Act provides comprehensive biosecurity measures to safeguard our economy, agricultural and tourism industries, environment and way of life, from:

  • pests (e.g. wild dogs and weeds)
  • diseases (e.g. foot-and-mouth disease)
  • contaminants (e.g. lead on grazing land).

A requirement of the new Biosecurity Act 2014 is for local government Councils to develop a Biosecurity Plan.

The Mount Isa City Council Draft Biosecurity Plan 2018 has now been adopted.
